| #1 Posted 1 year ago | Reply | | Is it just the YU-GI-OH original Japanesse theme, or some other wacky song? |
|
|
| #2 Posted 1 year ago | Reply | | It's the main theme song used in, at the very least, the Japanese Yu-Gi-Oh Series 1 (otherwise known as "the shadow game series", even though that's not an official title - it's all the shadow game stuff that came out before the show that got brought over, made by a different company), though obviously the song too is abridged. |

It's a good song.
Most non-japanese speakers call that series season zero for short. |

| #4 Posted 1 year ago | Reply | The name of the theme is "Kawaita Sakebi". As Olesia mentioned, it was used as the main theme for the original Yu-Gi-Oh series (nicknamed "Season Zero" by fans), which was produced by another company and has several canonical differences to the series we all know. The scary part is that Yami doesn't actually play Duel Monsters all that much, save against Kaiba. Instead, he just plays freaky shadow games of several different varieties with his opponents and makes insane bets, usually ending with him mind-crushing somebody.
Good stuff...you can find a number of eps on YT, I believe. |

| #5 Posted 1 year ago | Reply | Yup... Lots and lots of mental damage is induced by Yami...
Probably why fangirls write about that series a lot, for the ANGST! It's almost as angsty as the end of Yugioh. |

| #6 Posted 1 year ago | Reply | lol Kawaita Sakebi is 1 of my favorite yugioh opening themes xD
Does anyone know where to get da subbed vid for the last few episodes of Season Zero? I really want to see da ending subbed but youtube doesn't have it anywhere (thats not really a big shock xD) |
|
|
| #7 Posted 1 year ago | Reply | | TV-Nihon is still in the process of subbing Series 1/Season 0, which is why no one has the last few episodes - they haven't been done yet. Right now they're what looks like halfway through Death-T, and I think after that it's the Monster World RPG with the Bakura twins. (Hooray!) |

| #8 Posted 1 year ago | Reply | | I saw up to ep. 22 i'm hopein to see the rest when they get subbed! :) |

| #9 Posted 1 year ago | Reply | | That season is rather strange to me. Just the drawing style. Guess I'm too used to the one shown in America. (no joke intended.) |

I Much prefer the Shadow games over Duel Monsters.

|
| #11 Posted 1 year ago | Reply | | lol i like it more than duel monsters too.. almost all episodes involve the card game! but in season zero they actually did other stuff and yami got to be evil :) well not really "evil" xD |
|
|
| #12 Posted 1 year ago | Reply | | Yami always had a look in his eyes early on that was just downright crazy. I guess being locked away for thousands of years will do that to you. I missed that look as the series went on. |

|
| #13 Posted 1 year ago | Reply | | Season Zero is my favourite. Yami always looked crazed XD Yugi always seemed to get attacked by somebody every episode, if he was alone you can guarentee he was about to be attacked |
|
|
| #14 Posted 1 year ago | Reply | Yami was a bastard in season zero
xD
A crazy insane bastard
But
I love season zero
xD
Like, a lot. |

|
| #15 Posted 1 year ago | Reply | | Yeah, Yami was off the deep end in season 0. But then again so were the Kaiba brothers (hello! green hair. . .). Almost everyone was demented in season 0, and poor little Yugi is always caught in the middle. *feels bad for a half second* ^_^ |

| #17 Posted 1 year ago | Reply | This is one of the best sites for info on YGO: http://www.janime.info/
If you go to "anime" then "episode guide" then scroll down to "a shadow game" and click on it, it'll give you episode summaries.
Hope that helps! ^_^ |

bankrupting someone, setting the mob on em or something, and convincing one guy to commit suicide. He also whacks yugi with his briefcase of death. And that mugger in ep. 14 of TAS was a perv who videotaped tea and yami forced him into a shadow game and set him on fire :P |

| #21 Posted 1 year ago | Reply | its a part of the song called "Kawaita Sakebi" by Field of view. This song was used in the opening for Yugioh Series 1 (AKA "A shadow game"), witch was never reased in english.
You can download the song, music video, or anime opening on janime:

| #22 Posted 1 year ago | Reply | It's actually called "Kawaita Sekebi Ga" which means "A yell of thirst"
Maybe it's because you get thirsty after playing games.
I like it when season 0 yami says "The Door to darkness has openned" and when he says "it's game time".
The latter makes a change from "it's time to duel" |

| #24 Posted 1 year ago | Reply | | a lot of that stuff was very disturbing. Yami was had an insane sense of justice. He fused all of these clockwork mechanical devises and cogs and gears to this guys flesh just because he stole a watch. All round, hes a decent guy, but in the end he'd alway play a game, and when the other person lost, cheated or threw a wobbley, he'd phsicaly devistate them and mentally scar them. Still, that aside, he was pretty cool. |

I love Doctor Who ( I know it has nothing to do with this site but it's relevant to the conversation). |

| #30 Posted 12 months ago | Reply | Yeah, the song is Kawaita Sakebi, performed by Japanese band Field of View.
The version used in The Abridged Series just makes use of a tiny piece of the refrain ("Kawaita Sakebi ga") then cuts to "todoke fly at higher game", which I assume is English, although I have no idea what it means.
I've read a couple of translations, all of which are pretty similar, and altogether it's a bit...erm, unconventional for the opening to a TV series (at least it's different than those used in America). The opening to the refrain roughly translates to "Yells of thirst stab at my empty chest"...and the rest follows along those lines. It's odd because it seems that the song actually means something as opposed to just sounding good.
It really makes you think. |
