Well a bunch of my slaves friends over at the weekly comedy video website series Loading Ready Run found a way to put getting tortured to good use...
Every year, Child's Play, a charity started by Gabe and Tycho of Penny Arcade fame helps sick children in hospitals by sending them toys, video games and other things to give these kids some fun.
Last year the Loading Ready Run crew decided to get in on this by doing a video game marathon to support the charity.
The more money people donated, the longer they would have to continue playing. No biggie, right?
Well they decided that it wouldn't be any fun if the game didn't actually physically and mentally hurt to play, and so they chose one of the worst video games/best jokes of all time.... DESERT BUS.
Here is a small decription of the torture device from Wikipedia.com:Desert Bus is the best known mini game in the package, and was a featured part of Electronic Gaming Monthly’s preview. The objective of the game is to drive a bus from Tucson, Arizona to Las Vegas, Nevada in real time at a maximum speed of 45mph, a feat that would take the player 8 hours of continuous play to complete, as the game cannot be paused.
The bus contains no passengers, and there is no scenery or other cars on the road. The bus veers to the right slightly; as a result, it is impossible to tape down a button to go do something else and have the game end properly. If the bus veers off the road it will stall and be towed back to Tucson, also in real time. If the player makes it to Las Vegas, they will score exactly one point. The player then gets the option to make the return trip to Tucson—for another point (a decision they must make in a few seconds or the game ends). Players may continue to make trips and score points as long as their endurance holds out. Some players who have completed the trip have also noted that, although the scenery never changes, a bug splats on the windscreen over halfway through the first trip, and on the return trip the light does fade, with differences at dusk, and later a pitch black road where the player is guided only with headlights.
Last year, Loading Ready Run raised over $22,805 and had to play the horrible horrible game for 5 days.... and this year they are back at it AGAIN! (They aren't exactly the brightest bulbs... especially Morgan... but they are Canadian so that explains everything!).
At their site you can watch them suffer with a live non-stop feed of this event and donate money (They are already up to over $14,000 and it hasn't even been 24 hours yet!) so they have to play even longer.
Its for a good cause so I highly recommend if you have the money, toss a few bucks in... plus you get to watch a bunch of n00bs suffer in exchage!
I was planning on trying to make it up there so you may even see me show up sometime through the event!
I urge you all to check it out! Tis the season for giving after all...
Kroze out!

| #9 Posted 1 month ago | Reply | | Wow. That does sound like a torturous game, if that's even a word. If I had a credit card, I would so pay money to see people tortured with excruciatingly painfull video games. haha |

| #10 Posted 1 month ago | Reply | Ha ha. Wow. I mean, wow. The skewed ingenuity of the human race will never cease to amuse me... hey, at least it's for a good cause.
I'm just trying to picture the conversation leading up to this decision:
Hey, so now we need to pick a game to play.
How about Rock Band?
Naw, no one's gonna pay to see us play Rock Band... come on, get serious.
Ok, then, how about we play Desert Bus?
Yeah, man! That'll be totally awesome!!! |

| #12 Posted 1 month ago | Reply | That is easily the most awesome thing ever. True torture. Is Desert Bus even legal? Haha, and people worry about kids playing too much W.O.W. Yeah, right...
Oh, and I have a question. Do these guys get any sleep while they do this? Do they get to trade off? |

I'm impressed, normally your ramblings on regularity are a slight overestimation... |

| #28 Posted 1 month ago, in reply to post #27 by JesusRocks | Reply | Also THREE new videos are just right around the corner as well...
We've been trying to think of and work out a system for a few months to have at LEAST 2 updates a week with one always being a new page of Fluffy Doom... but that got held up due to several things...
Trying to get that in order right now...
And we have always cared about the fans.. sadly we all have our own lives and jobs to keep up to keep the site running and going...
All the staff have been working hard as possible to keep everything going.
We rather not make news post when there is nothing to report especially if stuff is in the works but we aren't sure if its gonna work out or not yet. |
