Now I can't stand it. Why does he talk so stupidly? The last part of all of his sentences go up in pitch and intensity. He sounds so fake D:
<3 Jounouchi's voice however. XP I may be the only one. |

Let's start this rant with good ol' Tokyo Mew Mew.
Back when I was a wee lass of just 12 years, I thought Mew Mew Power was pretty great. Then I researched why there weren't more than 26 episodes, as the story was hardly resolved, and discovered Tokyo Mew Mew. After watching the whole series and loving it to death, I saw 4Kids for what it truly is: PURE EVIL.
Well, most of the stuff in Yu-Gi-Oh was understandable. Like the Harpies' armour and such. Not much damage was done to Yu-Gi-Oh, IMO. Yes, some of the jokes were lame, and yes, they edited out numbers, but 99% main content was still there. And up until the last season or so of Pokemon, they did pretty good too, until they started with the rice balls. And it slightly annoyed me that the episode with James having boobs was cut.
None of that, however, was equal to the murder of Tokyo Mew Mew.
Firstly, they completely BUTCHERED the storyline. They cut the entire "be kind to nature" element out of the show, which I see no purpose for. Shouldn't we WANT kids to see that? Fricken 4Kids made it all about LOVE. TMM was quite about love as well, but it had some underlying morals and messages.
Secondly, of course, there's the rice balls morphing to other types of food. But that's already been discussed.
Then, there's the random cuts of bits and pieces (such as Ichigo/Zoey taking 8 steps insted of 9 - wtf?) and the switcharoo-ing of scenes.
Plus, apparently, in the MMP world, episode 12 doesn't exist. It was merely the pilot, and then it was erased form all the characters' memories.
And: "Mew Mew style, Mew Mew grace, Mew Mew Power in your face!" *barf*
I could literally go on for hours and hours about this poor anime that was massacred in our midst, but probably by now no one's even reading. So I'll shut up.
In summary...
Don't complain about YGO. In comparison to TMM, it was only slightly bruised. TMM was stabbed mercilessly to death, set on fire, then thrown off a cliff.
PS: They also made Aoyama/Mark sound like a 40-year-old man.

You've obviously never seen the real thing, have you?but 99% main content was still there.
Yup. You've never seen the real thing... |

| #128 Posted 6 months ago, in reply to post #126 by Sophie | Reply | I have, actually, seen almost all of the dub, and a lot of the original Japanese
Like I said, they did do some pretty dumb stuff, such as the stupid jokes ("digital dummy", "ghost of a chance" etc.) and the unnecessary editing out of certain things (the 5 on Joey's shirt, the toilet sign, Pegasus's wine), but I think an awful lot of complaining is being done about YGO when 4Kids has done way worse. I think the armour and possibly the "Shadow Realm" thing was alright, I mean, the Shadow Realm was also slightly unnecessary, but I could see where they're coming from. Lucky for YGO, most of it was dubbed before 4Kids went totally mental (One Piece, Mew Mew Power, the last bit of Pokemon [I'm aware Pokemon isn't dubbed by 4Kids anymore, but towards the end of the 4Kids portion]). Maybe it was worse towards the end, for which I haven't seen the English dub or Japanese.
Again, IMO. If you agree, great, if you don't, great.
K?
K.

| #129 Posted 6 months ago, in reply to post #128 by SugarCelebi | Reply | They haven't gone mental and theres nothing bad about 4kids. They make shows for 4kids.
And the dubbing in YGO is so much more then just a few cut out letters and whine. There is no way you've seen the sub and could say that.
I can rant about what has been changed. But I think I'd run out of room in this tiny little text box. |

However, about 6 episodes later, they refer to them as 'riceballs'
Seriously, if you're going to sensor something, at least be consistant. |

| #142 Posted 4 months ago | Reply | I've heard the reason even the English text was removed was so the series could be more easily marketed to other, non-English-speaking countries. Seriously.
As for Exodia, even the US version of the cards edited out the star. The Japanese cards have a star point behind each piece of Exodia, but the US cards have some kind of circle.By the way I find all of the before & after images interesting! Especially "Evil 5 Joey XD"

4Kids edits ridiculously... they should have just left the show the way it was and marketed it to teenagers instead. i also read somewhere, but now I can't remember where, that the shadow realm was invented by 4Kids as a way to censor people being killed. this makes sense, i guess, since it's a kid's show, but it leaves you with things like the harmless dark energy disks that won't kill you. don't quote me on that, though, cuz I can't source it.
and even after all of those censors, they didn't even bother to censor that card that scared the crap out of me when I was little... I used to play the trading card game when I was little (hehe, children's card games...) and I have since lost my deck, but my brother had a monster effect card that had something to do with zombies or killing people or something, and the picture was a guy with a cloak with a bunch of decapitated heads hanging off of it... i can't remember what the heck it was called, though... anyone know what card I'm talking about? |

| #145 Posted 4 months ago | Reply | i hate 4kids . they stopped making 1piece and mew mew power and many others. they were crap but it was a bit better than watching japanese with english dub. they'll stop making a show if it gets too "violent"
F*** you 4kids
that felt good

Actually, it has nothing to do with copyright. If a Starbucks logo appears in a cartoon, the cartoon won't get sued unless it appears that the show is trying to make money through that logo. What the issue is is that the networks don't like giving any product free advertising. |

| #147 Posted 2 months ago, in reply to post #23 by Dogbot | Reply | There's actually supposed to be a valid reason for why 4Kids took the titles, descriptions, etc off the cards. If they left it all on then it would be, more or less, the same as the real-life trading cards people buy. When it's the same as the real-life version, it becomes classified as advertisement for an actual product, which is illegal.
I get that and religious symbols, but why in the world do they avoid the word "death" at all costs? It's not like kids don't know what death is. |

| #148 Posted 2 months ago | Reply | | the whole 4kids thing is a bit stupid. I havent seen the japanese version of yu-gi-oh, but i can only imagine what it would be like. I just dont see why they dont translate the script to english, keep the rest like it is and then show it, For ra's sake. |

| #150 Posted 2 months ago | Reply | Why are we complaining so much about a company that caters to kids so blatantly that the name of the freaking company is For Kids?
Don't blame them for the fact that kids are stupid. Kids are stupid, as much as we'd like to believe otherwise. :/ Look at the commercials. They work. That in itself proves it. |
