WinAmp is in my Startup, so as soon as my computer boots up I am immersed in music. The only downside? I have a 4 gig mp3 player.

I love the fact that you felt the need to name them.
Oh, and I've got about 230 artists. I win :D

That's hardly enourmous at all, 6000 songs is nothing.

At least 75% of my songs are legal, though. At least three out of 4 guys with 6000 or more songs didn't get the majority of them legally. It's enormous from what I've seen. Also bear in mind that I don't just download any artist's discography just because I like one of their songs. All of these artists are artists I like multiple songs by.

And to Titan: I really named them all for myself. I'd been wanting to see how many artists I had, and I figured this would be a good enough chance. And as for you having 230 artists, give me a couple of months and I'll have that topped.

That's a pretty foolish bunch of statements... It's obvious you made up that statistic on the spot, you can't have seen that many collections and not downloading a bands discography from hearing one song is a given. You probably have more legit music than a fair few people but most don't really care about that. I download music and then buy it if it's good enough, that's the best way to go about things in my opinion. I have roughly 300 or so artists, probably around 350 - 400 if you include compilations working out at around 10k songs ish and I don't really consider it a large collection. I have seen faaaaaar bigger.

All of mine are legal...I've only downloaded a few songs (of which I soon brought the album of), have one downloaded album, and all the rest I brought

Internets is serious business, guys. Chill out, Chidori, I thought it was a given that that was a rough estimation. I don\'t claim to have gone and sampled every person on the internet to find that statistic. And you really didn\'t even offer any counter-examples. If anything, you supported my argument by admitting that you download your music illegally. I think my collection is impressive considering that most of it\'s legal. I find it pretty large. You really didn\'t have to be so rude in saying that my collection isn\'t that big. Now I remember why I usually avoid large forums like these-- there are many people like you who love to put others down.

Titan50: That\'s very impressive, man. I\'d love to see your CD collection (the physical one). I use Napster to get all my music through legal downloading, so I don\'t have very many physical CDs. You also have a very good taste in music, for the most part. You should check out Dominici if you like Dream Theater. Charlie Dominici was the original singer for Dream Theater (he sang on When Dream and Day Unite). A few years ago (~2003 or something) he started making (and has finished now) a trilogy of CDs that were a concept trilogy. They\'re about this terrorist guy who has the power to destroy the world with this chemical substance he has. It\'s really interesting. The first album is all acoustic, with Charlie Dominici being the only performer, but the other two are a full band playing prog-metal about the caliber of the stuff from Train of Thought (by Dream Theater).

My physical CD collection consists of about 100 CDs. Some of my albums I "borrowed" from my parents library and quite a lot I rent from my local library and rip them on my computer.
As for Dream Theatre, I've only got one song (the Iron Maiden cover they did for Kerrang) but I'm quite impressed by it

haha, deary me don't take it all so personally, and yes in a way i was agreeing with your statement because a fair few people with huge collections do gain it illegally. I was just disagreeing with how it did seem you were stating that statistic as fact and how smug you were with your collection because to me that isn't very impressive, but to you and others that might be... and that's fair enough. I was in no way trying to 'put you down' and I doubt i need to chill out, i was voicing my opinion and that's hardly a bad thing. As for my legal collection of music, I have around 150 CDs on a rough count but alas about 60% of that is bad metal which i can;t stand anymore because i used to buy all my CDs until i realised it how hard it was to find most of the bands i like in shops. So I suppose I am sorry if it I did come off like i was trying to lecture you and put you down because as I said, I was merely voicing my opinion and disagreeing with you in the process.

Sorry if I seemed pompous. Text can be awfully ambiguous when it comes to putting tone into statements.

You should try Napster. It's legal, it's pretty cheap (15 bucks a month for unlimited downloads), and you'd be surprised at some of the bands they actually have.

Titan: You should most definitely check out more Dream Theater. They kick butt.

hmmmmm, I just find torrenting more convenient. Also, I would rather save that money for CD's. If i download somthign and don't liek it i can just delete it but if i do i'll probably end up buying it, and i'll have more money lying around if i'm getting the music illegally. It'd probably piss off a bunch of bands but I've heard plenty support it (Trent Reznor etc). $15 a month works out at like 1 extra CD per month and I suppose I'd rather go with that than not breaking the law. People have preferences I suppose, I don;t consider downloading music theft so I don't really mind. Yip Yap Yop

Also, having a butchers at that list of yours I would reccomend the following: Tool, A Perfect Circle, Porcupine Tree, Coheed & Cambria, The Knife, Deftones, Incubus, Autechre, Aphex Twin, Opeth, Canvas Solaris, Explosions in the Sky, Mogwai, Pelican, Russian Circles, Ayreon, 65daysofstatic, We Made God, Thrice, M83, My Bloody Valentine, The Mahavisnu Orchestra, The John Butler Trio, Crystal Castles, The Avalanches, Air, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum and Sigur Rós to name a few. That's basically a mix of some of my favourates that fit with certain bands from your list. Enjoy.. haha
