| #31 Posted 6 months ago | Reply | | I can't believe no one has mentioned George R. R. Martin. He wrote the Fire and Ice saga. The books are less sword-and-magic based, more character, plot, and intrigue based (especially the first one). Don't get me wrong; There is a good bit of fantasy elements, they just serve more as the background. I highly recommend this series, though I must admit I've only finished the second one (they're really long). |

I also love Philip Pullman and Garth Nix.
They are both exceptional writers.

They started out with simplified seperate, but many stories that people believed were completely unrelated and then they tied them all together in the end. That much work takes many years of their life and they surprised a lot of their devoted readers with more than just great story lines, but with making the majority of them one. |
