I figured Terry Pratchett deserved at least one fan thread in this forum. If you've read his books then you love his books, if you haven't you must read them and be converted over. Please list your favorite quotes and or general love here.
Mine would be, "I swear he's elvish."

Yes Terry Pratchett is a decent author, i've enjoyed his work but i've only read Disc World books and that was a long time ago. shame i never finished them all

he's done some good work recently, like thud!. Even made a online game about it. Another good author you might want to read about is Neil Gaiman who worked with Pratchett on good omens.

Good omens isn't as good as his discworld work.

All the rest of his stuff really pales in comparison to it.

True, true. Rincewind and Barbarians > pollution but it's still good work.

^_^ Make that one of two.

omg, Soul Music (the elvish line), omg The Truth. Otto Chriek. I love him. 'ARGHARGHARGHARGH'

I'm reading Night Watch now. I've read quite a bit of Pratchett.

But speaking of Good Omens, I heard that they're coming out with a movie. Johnny Depp and Robin Williams starring. I NEED TO READ THE BOOK NOW.

Yes we are all elvish in a way.
My favorite character's Rincewind, fav book is interesting times. I don't know, there's just something about Rincewind I like.
Anyways, I posted this topic mainly because of my love of terry pratchett, but also because of the similarities in medium of him and LK. They're both making fun of shallow fantasy and having a good time. And like wraith said they also make some good points along the way, just because a kid's British you don't have to make fun of him people! Learn some tolerance, jesh.

GO BACK TO RUSSIA! *couldn't resist*

Haha, Rincewind's awesome. Interesting Times is probably my favourite Rincewind book. After all, he is a powerful wizzard.

"Multiple exclamation marks," he went on, shaking his head, "are a sure sign of a diseased mind."
(Terry Pratchett, Eric)

WHERE'S! MY! COW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(note the exclimationmarks of my diseased mind! - loved that book. In Mascarade (sp?) the phantom wrote out exclimation pts too. XD)

Don't worry about that . . . he's brilliant no matter what country you're in.

Pratchett is my idol.

Granny Weatherwax is MY idol.

Good idols you're listing, granny weatherwax I'm not so sure about but i'm not you. If I were it would have to be an alternate reality, possibly the dungeon dimension where you have tentacles. Wait a minute, it would be me having tentacles because I'd be you. That's if alternate realities exist, which they most certainly probably do. Logic pwns.

Vetinari has a all girl fanclub you know?

Curious about the reading order of some of you guys out there, did you read them all in order or did you skip randomly. Perhaps you read them backwards. I personally skipped around, jokes make so much more sense once you read the early books.

COMPLETELY! And Death too! And Binky!!! Gotta love them flying horsies.

You must have a very exciting life. I'm quite jealous! My grandparents are, unfortunatly, nothing of the sort.

The first ever Terry Pratchett I read was The Last Continent, and it made absolutely no sense to me, but I loved it so much! <3 After that I've had no order. I don't like his early books as much as his newer ones, most of them parodied Epic Fantasy type books, and I don't read too many of those.

First I read was Pyramids I think, then Soul Music....kinda skipped around, reading the separate arcs (Death, Witches, Watch etc). I still can't get through the two first (The Colour of Magic and The Light Fantastic). I don't know why, but the first pages bore me, and I move on to a different one.

Death, I think, IS my favourite character. Even over Granny, Vimes and Ponder Stibbons.

My first book was Small Gods, I remember it being recommended by a friend at my school. Such a long time ago, I read a few pages and I didn't like it that much. I gave it another chance and loved it, from there on I read all the rest of his books. Favorites are Interesting times, small gods, the truth, eric, and the light fantastic.

Oh, the truth was great - especially all the typos in the newspaper logo . . . "The Truth Shall Make Ye Fred" has to be another favorite quote.

It reminded me a lot of Going Postal, for some reason - that's another of my favorites. I guess it's because he was playing on the same theme. I think those are the only two he did that for, though . . . I think . . .

Hogswatch was brilliant, and actually, another one he did NOT in the Discworld series (LE GASP, THE SCANDAL!) Good Omens is quite good. And Maskarade and all the other ones I've mentioned . . . Oh gosh, I COULDN'T pick a favorite. I can't even pick a favoriet story ark, I'm tied between the Death/Mort/SusanStoHilt one and Vime's stories AND The Lanchiester (sp?) witches' coven! Gyaaaar! TERRY PRATCHETT, WHY ARE YOU SO GOOD?
It's suprising though, for all his fame, he's never had a major motion picture out. I guess it's because to many of his jokes just couldn't translate to the big screen.

There were two cartoons in the '90s - Soul Music and Wyrd Sisters. I loved them as a kid even before I read the books. They're really good, although not as good as the books, of course.

Hmm, I would like to see that soul music cartoon , Susan as death and all. I wonder where on the internet those videos are.

#27   Posted 1 year agoReply
Dunno. I only have them on tapes (taped from when they were on)

Christopher Lee was Death - even better than Ian Richardson, FSM rest his soul

Good book, I'll leave one last comment before I log off for tonight.

If you want to be a god, you got to kill off paradox. Not the brothers btw.
