There are so many things that are stupid and cliche in these books. Honestly, if maybe Chris had taken a bit more time, gotten rejected a bit and reworked Eragon, the entire series could have turned out great.
Instead, we are left with a sour taste in our mouths because he was too damn stupid to take the path of actually editing the things he wrote. His writing hasn't improved since he wrote Eragon; when fans tell me 'Oh, but he was only 15 when he wrote it' I say 'Yeah. I can tell.' None of the character are interesting or likeable, the story is basically Star-Wars with the word lightsaber replaced with sword, and Luke with Eragon, and half of the concepts he uses have already been put into much better books.

| #104 Posted 2 months ago | Reply | wow, Twlilightbasher, I guess you really hate the Inheritence cycle.
I on the other hand love it, and I thoroughly enjoyed Brisingr. I even put down all the other books I was reading just to concentrate on it. A lot of these posts are basically praise or insults against the books, but I want to propose a discussion on the story. If this is against the terms and conditions, someone tell me since i haven\'t read ALL of them.
SPOILER BELOW - If you haven\'t read brisingr. (shame on you if you haven\'t )
When Murtagh kills Oromis, Oromis drops his sword. This lands somewhere on the battle fields which the elves are fighting. now I don\'t think Eragon has all he needs to defeat Galbatorix, considering he only has saphira and Glaedr plus his own magical skills, whereas Galbatorix has hundreds of dragon heart of heart things and hundreds of years of experience, so I reckon in the fourth book, Paolini will steer Eragon back to that fallen sword, assuming the elves will recover it fro him, since it has a hundred year\'s worth of magic in it. What do you guys reckon?
SPOILER OVER. |

| #105 Posted 2 months ago, in reply to post #104 by jammydodger0 | Reply | [ why would Eragon need a sword when Rhunon already made him a real dragon riders' sword? ]

| #106 Posted 2 months ago | Reply | SPOILER!
i don't think he'll need the sword, only the ruby on the sword, which has a hundred years worth of magic in it, otherwise there's be no way he could defeat galbatorix |

| #108 Posted 2 months ago | Reply | [ Well, Eragon already has Aren, which is similar to the sword in terms of magical power. The one thing that really bugs me, though, is what the Menoa Tree did to Eragon's body. The way it was worded it's almost as if it planted something inside him. Also, I really want to know how the slave mother and daughter that Eragon blessed are going to come into play.
And do you think that Galbatorix is simply going to let Rhunon fall to the ground without retrieving it himself? He was already controlling Murtagh's body, so he knows that the sword fell, so it's only natural that he would fetch Rhunon and use it's power for himself.
Also, when it comes to Galbatorix, it seems like Eragon is either going to learn his true name or simply disconnect him from the Hearts of Hearts. ] |

| #111 Posted 1 month ago | Reply | sorry, didn\'t realise about spoiler tags.
[ and it says he\'ll fall in love with royalty, but since Arya won\'t have him, who then? It seems that he starts to get a bit closer to nasuada in Brisingr, and i think she\'s related to royalty or something. Could this be a plot twist or will he just get Arya in the end? Plus, yeah, with him leaving Alagaesia, I think it'll be a lord of the rings situation, because Frodo was too troubled or whatever and ended up leaving ] |
|
|
| #112 Posted 1 month ago | Reply | Well, it only says that he'd fall in love with royalty, not that anyone in royalty will fall in love with him. Still, [ after reading Brisingr, it feels like he's gotten much closer to Arya, and that she may actually accept him later on.
As for leaving Alegaesia, where do they mention this? I don't remember that one at all. Was it told to him by Angela or something as a fortune? ] |
