| #1 Posted 7 months ago | Reply | Thanks to TAS I have started watching real Yu-Gi-Oh episodes again. I must have been like twelve when this stuff came out, and I was really REALLY into it. But around the time when the Doma Arc came out on WB I just started to get bored of it.
But now I'm started to watch it again in badly subbed Japanese.
It's remarkable just how much they've changed the show from Japanese to English. In a row I watched the Japanese episode where Kaiba duels Pegasus then the English version. The characters are COMPLETELY different. Like unbelievably different. Japanese Kaiba barely says a word, and in the English version he rants on and he's a skeptical rich prick. (Don't get me wrong I <3 Seto) Jounouchi makes an ass of himself in the English version when he acutally doesn't in the Japanese version. And they just add countless amounts of pointless dialog, and it seems the only purpose it serves is to take away from the intense drama. I acutally GASPED in real life, at one point during the duel in Japanese. That never would have happened with the English version. They really did make it 4kids.

They turned Mai into a total bitch too. In the English she doesn't stop getting on my nerves. In the Japanese she's my favorite female character
I'm in the Noah arc right now, and it's kinda pissing me off that they purposely left out Mai, Marik, Isis, AND Bakura. >.> At least Kaiba is still involved. And that Anzu is actually a likable character in the Japanese; I found her character development pretty interesting in those penguin episodes. Black Magician Girl is awesome. |

You know what, I'll sum it up like this: YOUR OPINION HAS BEEN SAID HERE A THOUSAND TIMES. We don't need ANOTHER thread for this shit.
Also the shit is for kids, OF COURSE THEY'LL HAVE TO DUMB IT DOWN AND ADD DIALOG. Holy shit stop being a fangirl over the series. |

Kids aren't REALLY going to care if they don't understand everything 100%. I mean I didn't understand Disney movies when I was 5 the way I do now but that didn't stop me from watching and enjoying them. :/ |

No. The original series was not made for kids. I understand that 4kids is trying to change it, and I accept that. I watched it all when I was younger and thought nothing of it. But there is a lot of ridiculous unnecessary editing as MissSallyBakura pointed out. I never said the 4kids version was bad. I said it was a lot different.I despise Kaiba in the English version. I could never hate Kaiba. He as some good English lines.
The Noa arc is awesome! Manly because it centers around Kaiba. Hehe, 4kids really watered down his past but the Japanese verison is just brilliant.
And I totally agree, Anzu is no where near as annoying in the Japanese version. And I really liked her in Season 0.like making Kaiba and Mai meaner than they really are
They didn't just make Kaiba meaner. I've come to see that they make him way more stuck-up and waaaay more skeptical. It's very strange and very unnecessary things to change. |

But as far as the plot goes, it's very watered down. And they make unnecessary changes. I wont lie to you, I much rather the original Anime to the English one, and I'd much rather the Manga to both. It's a downhill slop of shittyness. But It's not bad. 4kids are just doing their job. They're making shows 4kids. I completely accept that. |

I'll confess I really love the Japanese series. It has much more drama and depth to it and the characters are far more tolerable. However, in either series I still hate the memory arc. Why the villians need to run over their evil plan in their head everytime they come on screen (yes, I'm looking at you, Marik) is lost on me. And the "we need to win this duel because the fate of the world depends on it" line is used waay too much. But enough of my ranting. I only discovered that I liked YGO not too long ago so I'm still watching it on Youtube (subs are so off I often lose my patience with them  ). I'm on the Virtual World Arc with Noah, and I plan on skipping Series 4. :P |

| #29 Posted 2 weeks ago | Reply | Well, watched the original show when about 8-10 so liked the English one more, because it easier to follow and funnier, (which was made even better by LK, when I was 16 lol.) And though now I am much older, and so i prefer the jap version far more, I think we all need to remember 4Kids made it for kids and with the amount taken out, something needed putting back in and so some characters were changed to dumb them down why'll making them a story,
Think need to remember Yu Gi Oh, English is for kids and YuGI Oh, Jap is for teens.
Plus Mai and Kaiba are better to me in English version because they are meaner lol
And where would we be without 4kids and their invisible guns
