I usually go for subs. Though i have to admit that there are a few good dubs out there (Cowboy bebob anyone). However, most of the anime I'm watching still have yet to be released in English. So I don't have much of a choice in the matter. : [

I don't really care, whatever comes first, really.

But I really have no understanding how anyone could say that subs are superior when you don't know the language to begin with, unless the dubbing is totally off...and even then voices can grow with characters.

But really, whatever I hear first, is what I'll become used to. Although I very much prefer hearing something dubbed so I don't have to focus too hard on watching.

I know the feeling. I watched the dub of Full Metal Alchemist (it was around 35-40ish at the time) and I went on Youtube and watched most of the last episode (I read spoilers all the time, I'm not a wimp like most people when it comes to that) and I couldn't believe my ears. Ed sounded like a 12 year old girl, and Al sounded like a 7 year old girl.

That was the only japanese episode of FMA I've ever seen. >>

prefer an anime to be in a language that I understand. Bad or good, I'll watch it dubbed. However I view quite a few dubs as terrible, even if I haven't seen it in japanese. I also think that the japanese version sounds better anyway, but I prefer it in a language I can unerstand. So I watch it in anyway possible.

I watch the subbys sometimes, but I always watch the dubs if they're there! XD I kinda feel oblidged to watch them too; Come on people, how's anime supposed to spread to the masses if it's all subtitled? Plus there are some great dubs out there ^-^

I really like the japanese voice talent, I think put alot of emotion into their voices and it gets you really into the anime itself. I have found afew Dubs that aren't too bad and I love watching them over subs ( El-hazard and Tenchi muyo being my main two) But if I ever had to seriously pick....I would have to go with subs, hands down. =D

Ya alhtough I believe the El Hazard dub to be horrible (because it is), but Alielle's japanese voice is SO bad by itself, that it literally hurt my ears to listen too. They rang and the volume was the lowers, still being able to listen to volume there was....tererible.

Not a hard choice

SUBBED

Any anime subbed is better than the dub.

Subtitles. I even watch English shows with subtitles. Also, dubs often suck. There are some good ones, but I usually want subtitles anyway.

Simple: buy the DVD and watch with the (normally included) original Japanese track and throw on subtitles. The companies still get their money (with which they can buy more anime licenses), and those of us unhappy with the dub get the original audio track. Everybody wins. :D

But I do generally at least give dubs a chance because I too know that there are some good dubs out there.

I don't mind dubs, unless the majority of the cast have wrong/annoying voices *cough*naruto*cough*
Although I do enjoy reading subs. With early dubs of anime such as the OVA of Tokyo Babylon, there's sometimes a completely different story in comparison to the subs- more common with mainstream anime's like 'Cardcaptors', 'Pokemon' and 'Yu-gi-oh' ("Check his pulse yugi!" XD) However, nowadays the dubbing sticks to the story line as well as a good chance of getting good voices for the characters...

so...yay?

As long as the dub is good, then I'll watch it. Otherwise I'll watch it subbed.
I've noticed that cute characters are often dubbed as just being annoying. How can cute soft Japanese voices be translated into loud, annoying, and rough voices? Ruins dubs that would otherwise be good.

Subs. Lack of censorship and I don't have to wait 4 years to watch one series.

Nice to see someone who prefers the subs for a reason OTHER than the voices for once.

It doesn't matter to me unless I'd wanted to see the rest of the series before the dubbed version is over.

Generally I prefer subs.

Let's face it-- the Japanese are better at voicing a Japanese series than anyone else.
I don't get how people can't be bothered to read the subs since you only really need to glance at them.

Most dubs aren't particularly good. Maybe it's because I'm not American and so, American voices don't sound everyday to me, but I just honestly prefer to hear the Japanese voices. I mean, at least in the original a young boy will sound like a young boy and not forty years old.

I'll give credit where it's due. Series such as Gundam Wing are pretty much dubbed word for word from the original, but at least with the sub you know that you're getting it how the producers and creators wanted you to see it. It's sort of pure and unaltered.

Again though, it could be down to me not being American and since in dubs the voices are made to cater for an American audience and contain puns/ jokes aimed at American's a lot of the time I just don't understand or feel it.
