I laughed at this on wikipedia when I was trying to find the correct spelling for her name.
"The series also famously employed a vocabulary of fictional expletives in order to avoid using potentially-offensive expletives in the show, and to give nuance to futuristic colloquial language. By far, the most famous example is 'smeg'. The word can be considered a substitute for either "shit" or "fuck" depending on circumstance, and so variations of the word include 'smeghead', 'smeg off' and 'smegging hell'"
I'm wondering if anyone else on here knows what smeg is actually slang for. |

I've never found an interview where the creators have said anything specific about ti though. |

(Lister and Rimmer are drunk)

Lister & Rimmer: OH YEAH!
(Pause)
Lister: Smeg...he tricked us.
Rimmer: Absolutely. (Falls unconcious on the floor)
Lister: (Points and laughs at him, then talks to the officer) He had a bit much to drink you know.. (Falls asleep)
Officer: Get two pumps in here (Dramatic pause) Supersuck.
I can't quite remember the scene, I just remember laughing at it.  |
