New Episodes Host (195 comments, posted 1 year ago by Ben)Back to News
Hello everyone. Huge announcement for you today concerning the episodes situation. As you may know for a while now we've been serving episode downloads from our server and flash streaming from Brightcove. Yeah... turns out that wasn't a very effective solution. So we're changing, and we're changing to Revver.

So why is this a good change? Well let me walk you through the things that make Revver so awesome.
1. It's Just Like YouTube
Revver is a whole video sharing website, just like YouTube is. Fortunately for us that means if we get loads of views on our episodes we'll climb up the "Most Watched" list on the site and probably end up on the front page. If one of our episodes gets on the front page of Revver, LOADS of people are going to see it. I'm talking about a gazillion people. And getting the word out of YGOTAS is good, right?
2. Advertising
I know what you're going to say. "Oh dudes, you're selling out." Well, not really. He's why. The ads at the bottom of the site do NOT provide us with enough money. We're nowhere close to breaking even, and running the site is a majorly expensive endeavour. We're losing money keeping the site alive, I don't know the exact number of how much we're losing, but I don't particularly want to know. Fortunately hosting on Revver not only takes the download hits off of our servers, but also allows us to embed REALLY short, unannoying ads. How much do these ads help? Imagine if we took the banner at the bottom of the page and duplicated it 6 times all over the place. That is how much more money we'd be getting. And we need money to keep the servers from dying! So advertising in the episodes is a good thing, because I prefer the servers being alive over dead.
3. MAKE MONEY ON SHARING IT.
If you get a friend into the Abridged Series, you can get a cut from the ad revenue! When you're watching one of our videos on Revver.com and you're signed in, you can spread the link to the video with your special sharer ID attached which means that you get 20% of all ad revenue (we get 40%, Revver gets 40%). So if there's ever been a time to tell friends about TAS, this is the time.
I would really love to hear your guys thoughts on this. This site is FOR the community, and I'm just one man - there's 7,422 others that also use the site and want it there way. So if you have any suggestions, criticisms, ideas, I would be extremely happy to hear them. Thanks, and rock on.
