#4   Posted 2 months ago in Next Gen = Short Games
Somewhere along the fighting for dominance in the gaming industry they seemed to have really screwed something up chronic in terms of lengthy gameplay. I currently own an xbox 360 and nintendo wii (in terms of the next gen consoles) and i play my mates PS3 quite alot aswell. Problem lately i tend to notice is that games in the 360 and PS3 invest in so much graphics and fancy cut scenes that their replay, "end game" or even basic story modes lack a hell of alot of lengthy gameplay.

As examples off the top of my head i can list a couple that were dreadfully short, Jericho, Too Human, Blacksite, Dead Rising, Halo 3, Assasins Creed even MGS4 was shorter than the PS2 and PS1 counterparts (imo at the very least). Unfortunately even with Blueray discs it seems potential gaming hours are being cropped off, but what about the Wii or PSP, they use the smaller discs and the games seem to last just enough time to be really enjoyable, even the NDS which still uses cartridge has some really potentially long games.

Matter of fact if it werent for the NDS (15+ games which i own, even more than i own for my 360 and wii put together) xbox live arcade and old school console emulators my free time would have been a bore fest. Whatever happened to multiple discs like FF 7/8/9, Abe's exoddus, Escape from monkey island, broken sword and other such fairly old games, sure the 360 is getting FF13 in 2CD's but only because it was meant for a blueray disc. Looks like next gen should really jump back abit and notice gameplay > graphics and leave all the graphical gameplay to PC games which can be as large as they really want it to be what with downloading, for example look at capcom with megaman 9, they seem to get the picture. Anybody noticed this aswell, or have games to add to the short list?

Well i was pretty bummed that a castlevania character didnt make it to super smash bros brawl (damn sonic and snake!), but hey we actually get a pretty decent game out of it now. Set to release for wii sometime in Q4/3 this year is Castlevania Judgment a Fighting Action game with gameplay reminiscent from the streetfighter series combined with 3D Roam able stages (and by this i do mean u can walk literally almost everywhere in the stage, even up and down).

Im sure all castlevania fans will be awaiting this title, i myself would probably play as Shaft if they decide to add him but here are the characters i know you can play as thus far: Simon, Dracula, Alucard, Maria and there are more i just havnt seen them yet, i would imagine they havnt left out people like Richter, Trevor, Shaft, Death and Soma, hopefully if anything they add my personal favorite of the belmonts Juste.

So what do you guys think, whos your preferred playable character, what else do you know about the game etc etc...

12:53: - Turns out the Q aand A is only about Final Fantasy XIII. Guess they knew we'd be all WTF after that Microsoft conference.
12:54 - First question: "Why move it to the 360?" The answer being that they looked at the hardware install of both systems and decided to move it over to the 360.
12:58 - Someone asked if FF XIII means that other Final Fantasy and Square Enix games will come to the 360.
12:59 - The answer to that is... (double translated, sorry for the delay)
1:00 - For right now Square Enix says they are full with FF XIII and are focusing on that and haven't thought about other titles.

Taken From the E3 2008 blog entry, its about 4 day old news from the time im posting this but i cant see any other thread about it in plain view. So looks like xbox 360 claims another EX exclusive series title that would have belonged to PS3, and if that aint proof enough for you check out GameFAQS they even got the board and etc up for the xbox exclusive version (not that its really all that much proof but they are a professional site so trust em to get it right).

I have to say i myself am relieved that i dont have to buy the PS3 just for FF13, i myself seriously could not afford the console in question (hence why i currently own an xbox 360, and nintendo wii but its technically not mine, but who cares aslong as i can play brawl). I'm sure Xbox fanbois and cheapos alike will be relieved by this amazing piece of news, not so amazing for those who invested in the PS3 only to see already two major titles jump to Microsoft (DMC4+FF13, might be others i duno). But hey who can blame Square for doing so, the price to create a game in question these days is almost equivalent to your typical Hollywood movie, not that i dont enjoy Samuel L Jackson busting out a gun whenever appropriate, its understandable that multi platform gaming is a good basis for an increased profit, thank god we still have a decent supply of retroish games on the NDS, graphics doesnt always mean a good game, FF7 anyone?
