As a Tech Engineer, Mark was tasked with finding a weakness in the metal flesh. The Horde resisted all projectile weapons. Advanced weapons, like the Shockwave (capable of transmitting 100,000 volts into a target), are useless because the alloy acts as a grounder and shorts out all electrical weaponry. They resist the latest in sub-thermal technology. The Incinerator and D8 Make 3 cause minimal damage. When fire is thrown at the Horde, they slow, but don’t stop. The weaker ones may stumble in exhaustion, but not one of them dies. They resist incredible amounts of radiation.
The Federal Institute of Advancement had been able to capture one of the infected. They had intended to study it when they learned it was impossible because practical sedatives had no effect. No needle would pierce their toughened flesh. Large traces of the alloy were found fused into the skin of the infected, strengthening it and making it virtually bullet proof.
What weapon could they use against them? Tanks have blown them up and mowed them down, but they rise again, uninjured. A peculiar suspicion overwhelmed him. Nuclear weapons were out of the question, the Horde was making its way through areas that were too highly populated. The risk versus the reward was too great. Too many lives would be lost. Something new would have to be created. He had a plan that seemed impossible. If he suggested it in any other circumstance, he’d probably be branded a lunatic and removed from duty. But with some luck, and a little time, he might be able to pull it off.
