It's expensive but it'll be worth it even if we don't get in. Sun, 25 May 2008 05:55:10 -0500 http://www.yugiohtheabridgedseries.com/user/4/blog/c1177/ Dan in Real Life BryyMiller http://www.yugiohtheabridgedseries.com/user/4/blog/c747/ It gets a D+.

Good acting, good plot, the dialogue is good up until the third act (seriously. The 8 year old daughter tells him to "go. now." when talking about a girl), but the story structure sucks. Instead of focusing on Dan's life, they make it about the singular love triangle between him, a girl, and his brother. Every single fucking scene is about this.

And in the end? He doesn't go after his brother, whom he just betrayed. He goes after the girl.

And there is absolutely no resolution with his brother either. In fact, the entire family forgives Dan completely in five minutes.

It sends a horrible message when it could of sent a wonderful one about how we make huge mistakes in life. Tue, 13 Nov 2007 01:44:23 -0600 http://www.yugiohtheabridgedseries.com/user/4/blog/c747/ E for All BryyMiller http://www.yugiohtheabridgedseries.com/user/4/blog/c486/ I don't know if I'm going back tomorrow. There's just not enough to do to warrant two days. Yes, there's a panel, but it's an extra $50. I already talked to a bunch of game testers on the floor who probably told me more information than what I'd get from a panel geared towards devs.

But it's also not the crapheap that IGN and Joystiq are making it out to be. So it doesn't have Microsoft or Sony? So it doesn't have money behind it? Are these things really what make a con? Should every Game Con be PAX? Now that's a scary fuckin' thought right there. This is WonderCon of the Game Con world. If you want to go to ComicCon, go to PAX, then. But it really gets trashed just because it's not an orgasm mixed with Oreo.

It was small. Very small. Less than half of the entire South Hall was barren and for food only.

The first thing that I noticed when entering the show floor was the musical act, 8 Bit, looking down on us from upon some scaffolding. I was not impressed, but I hear they are quite the thing.
Next I decided to walk around the con, to get a feel for it. It is hard to miss the Nintendo booth, as its banners had a monopoly on the ceiling area. That and the huge stadium seating they had for the Smash games. Fuck, I thought to myself, how am I going to get in there? Luckily, there were safer two-player Brawl matches going on behind the Smash Bowl.

I played as Ike, the other guy was Sonic. I didn't have the patience to wait in line for the big screen four-player Brawl. I also didn't want my first experience with Brawl to be with three other guys playing it for the first time. If it was all girls then maybe. But the announcers also scared me. One was a ditz, one was a sub, and one was overhyper.
So I stayed away from that fame.

I got my game on with Mr. Hedgehog over on one of the side screens. The lines for those weren't bad at all.
Okay, let's go straight into it:
My fears about the items popping up too often were realized right off the bat. I almost instantly got a Final Smash and used it on Sonic. Ike's FS is.... very disappointing..... as it is just a variation of Ike's Aether attack. It also does 60% damage, which is nice. Sonic's FS is far too powerful, as he not only retains his speed but now can go anywhere on the map.

As for the stage, we played on Norfair, which is ironic because as Brinstar was my least favorite map, this is my new favorite map. Even more ironic is that the lava is still in. There's a shitload more of it, too. Easy to dodge, though. Oh, and Mr. Rosetti getting submerged in lava but still telling you to do the laundry? Awesome. Norfair has three tiers of platforms which makes it a very large playground, and it's all very stable. My second favorite is Lylat because it just looks so damn beautiful. My least favorite stages would have to be Delfino Plaza and Castle Siege. CS is constantly changing and it is just a poorly made level. Yoshi's Island is rad, but nothing really special. Smashville is essentially Battlefield. Pokemon Stadium II is the same old thing, not that that's a bad thing.

Ike is powerful. He's a faster Ganon.
Sonic seems way too fast, and I noticed a new thing about Sonic that people online are going to overdo: change his color to black. Expect to see a lot of whiners online that want Sonic vs. Shadow matches.
Aslo, I will always play as White Donkey Kong, if only for the obscure racial lollery. One of the announcers tried to make a joke about Black Donkey Kong, but realized it would just end badly.

Meta Knight's FS is an instant KO.
Mario's FS is very underpowered, as it is a simple projectile as oppose to a barrage like we all thought.
Gigabowser is not that powerful (or big), as he was KO'ed.
Peach's FS is to put everyone to sleep as she regains her health.
Very random final FS moves.

As for adventure mode, it is looking very epic. It includes both single player and team missions. You get to pick which character you are for the team missions. The team AI is not that great.
The unreleased levels/videos that I saw were: the entire opening video, the Petey Pirahna fight, what happens to the princess that you don't save (it is an awesome gameplay element and I recommend saving Zelda based on her moveset), Pit's level (which is, again, awesome), and Donkey Kong and Diddy's level. Diddy is introduced in a very John Woo-style way. It was great.

Brawl is the best game that I have ever played on the Wii, and it in leagues above Melee. And I only played the demo. Oh, and I loved Galaxy, too. But that's for another thread.

But holy shit will there be a lot of Sonic's online.

After Smash, I played a bit of Resident Evil, which was insane. You know, in the membrane region. The Wii Zapper will sell like nobody's business.

Super Mario Galaxy was fun, but none of the levels that were available in the demo were new. It was still great. It plays like a 3D platformer, what Mario 64 should of been. The bosses are huge. It's also the greatest looking Wii game.

I passed the Guitar Hero booth, where you could play the game in front of a bunch of people sitting in lawn chairs and on blankets. Very Woodstock. I listened to this guy utterly butcher Message in a Bottle.

Oh, Guitar Hero Wii plays great. I recreated the sacking of Message in a Bottle. But it didn't scare me off, like most of those games do. It was easy to play.

On the other side of the con was Rock Band, which one upped Guitar Hero by adding in a second guitar, a singer, and a drummer. This, as well, was done in a Woodstock setting. It should retail for Your Life Savings. These guys did an amazing Sweet Home Alabama, though. Games these days...

I passed the Alienware booth, which was showing off its new model. I didn't have the time to try to figure out what it did or why it was special. I then passed HP, right across from Alienware and also showing off their new model. I swore that they were going to go to fisticuffs. I witnessed a hilarious three-way match of Universe at War.

Then I got to the CS tourney. Holy. Crap.
Picture five chunky guys of a nationality of which I will not say all around computers, all with headphones on, all playing CS on the same team. Every so often, one would start screaming inane babble at the others. Even though they were less than a foot away. One threw down his headphones, clearly dead, and he started CLAPPING and HOLLERING at his teammates in a show of encouragement that I had only seen on TV football games. It would become scary at times, when I was not sure whether to laugh at these guys or to be frightened for the health of their hearts. They would all start yelling "MUDPIPE! MUDPIPE!" like it meant something else. It probably did. They probably had their own language. It was a hyper version of the South Park World of Warcraft episode. Cartman was not calm. He was fucking on E.

As I passed the Halo 3 tourney, I overheard this:
"Are you hearing the CS guys?"
"Yeah, what the fuck is going on over there?"

Then I stopped and listened to some guy on piano doing all of the Nintendo themes. Hands were amazingly fast.

Talked to some game testers about their jobs. They gave me a pamphlet.

Played the Independent Games. Those were awesome. One was called Box Fight or Box Something. The object was to fight as many box men as you could in order to cover the floor with boxes. Read: the object of said game is to litter the floor with body parts. I also played an RTS where the way to win was to convert as many enemy units to your side as possible within a specific timeframe.

I may go back for the Mario Kart tourney tomorrow, since I placed second in my college's Kart tourney only to have the first place winner pick me as his wingman for the second and third rounds.

So that was my day.

P.S. - Simpsons Game is going to be a big hit.
